Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that primarily focuses on grappling or ground fighting. It effectively combines standing takedowns and throws with various ground skills, such as, body positions, submissions and chokes, while emphasizing on the principles of proper leverage, body mechanics and technique. Participant wear either the traditional kimono uniform known as a gi or shorts and shirt in what is commonly referred to as no-gi. Whether you are aspiring to be a serious competitor in mixed martial arts (MMA) or competitive grappling, or just looking to try something new and get into shape, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a fast paced and exciting martial art that is open to all skill levels and athletic types...the best time to start is right now. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals. This class is designed for all students age sixteen and older and is under the instruction of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Alex Sung (About us). Regardless of belt rank, the Fundamentals class is a vital aspect of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. Students will be taught a wide range of basic, but essential, techniques necessary for their progression. This class is also structured properly to provide students with ample time to practice and drill techniques, as well as, participate in active grappling or rolling sessions. Please note: at Positive Impact you are not just a number, you are a valued member. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is capped at 20 members - providing students with an optimal training environment. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition Team The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition team has a very busy tournament schedule through out the year. Team members regularly compete in various regional tournaments, as well as, the major international tournament circuits and organizations such as NAGA, Grappler's Quest, FILA, IBJJF and ADCC Pro. Competition training sessions provide team members with more focused and individualized training as they get closer to their upcoming tournaments. This training is also open to those students who are not competing, but wish to get some extra time on the mats. While competing is an excellent goal it is purely voluntary, and students should not feel obliged or pressured to attend tournaments. Please note: Competition Team training is not open to all students. If you wish to participate you must speak with Alex first. Men’s Muay Thai Kickboxing Muay Thai kickboxing is widely accepted as one of the most respected striking arts in the world today and is commonly referred to as the 'science of eight limbs,'as the hands, feet, knees and elbows are all used extensively with this striking art. The art of Muay Thai takes the most effective aspects of various striking styles and combines them into one complete striking system. Whether your goal is to compete, stay in shape, or lose a few pounds, you will quickly see the benefits of Muay Thai kickboxing. Positive Impact Men's Muay Thai is a serious Muay Thai program that is designed for men 16 and older. Each class is 60 minutes under the instruction of Professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter Alex Sung and certified Muay Thai instructor Heather Sung (see "About us"). It is a great way to get in shape, increase self confidence, and learn a new skill in a comfortable and non-intimidating environment. Each class covers the various skills and techniques of Muay Thai, and incorporates individual exercises, instruction and attention based upon the student's level of fitness. At Positive Impact you are not just a number, you are a valued member. Men's Muay Thai is capped at 16 members - providing students with an optimal training environment. Women’s Muay Thai Kickboxing Please note that this class is not a Tae Bo or Cardio Kickboxing aerobics class. At Positive Impact you are not just a number, you are a valued member. Women's Muay Thai is capped at 20 members - providing students with more personal instruction while having fun training. Women’s Muay Thai Intermediate Class This class is for women that have passed the level test. It involves a new contact and conditioning drills and the next level of skill set. Combat Conditioning Do you want to build a strong, fit body? This class was originally taught to professional fighters preparing for MMA and kickboxing competitions, but now the Combat Conditioning class has been modified to accommodate people of all fitness levels. Taught by Heather Sung, (see "Meet the Instructor's") this class is structured in a way to properly per iodize training and provides an awesome and challenging workout. Each component of the work out has a level system, and classes include agility and ply-o-metric drills; skipping; body awareness and alignment; non-contact kickboxing and MMA drills; and a great workout. At Positive Impact you are not just a number, you are a valued member. Combat Conditioning is capped at 20 members - providing students with an optimal training environment. Youth Boyz MMA This program combines the two very exciting and unique martial arts of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is an excellent program that teaches your child two very practical and realistic martial arts in a fun and safe training environment. Classes are taught by Heather and Alex Sung and involve a functional warm up, technical instruction, and various drills aimed at improving physical conditioning and confirming technical skills. Please note that during Muay Thai training, sparring is not permitted in the youth class, but members will be required to hit bags, focus mitts and other training pads. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training does involve some closely supervised live wrestling and grappling in a controlled and safe environemnt. The staff at Positive Impact MMA, strongly believe that the youth MMA program will make a positive impact on your child’s life by promoting fitness, self confidence and discipline. We strongly reinforce to our students the importance of safe training, self control and the proper usage of the skills that they are taught. Girls Night Out This class is for Mom-daughter (Aunt-niece, Grandma- Grand-daughter, etc). It is a Muay Thai kickboxing class that has been designed to promote health, importance of nutrition, fitness, self confidence. |
